This is an actual BIG Competition, which is different from regular hackathons.
The first round of competition will take place Online, which starts Saturday, May 3rd, 2014 at 9am and continues to Sunday, May 4th, 2014 till 9pm. The goal of the 24-hour competition is to deploy and complete a Hadoop Cluster. The criteria for winning the competition includes completeness, accuracy, and efficacy. Additionally, overall execution of Hadoop Cluster Deployment is the key to high scoring. Only the top 10 teams scoring at least 70 out of 100 points can proceed to the final round of competition.
The final competition starts Saturday, May 31st, 2014 at 9am and will be held in Taipei. Within the 10-hour final round competition, your team will need to deploy using Hadoop version 2.0 within 4VMs and a free version software distribution. The deployment is a fully distributed mode including 2 name nodes and 2 data nodes. The first team to complete in the student group and amateur group will walk away respectively with a NT$150,000. We encourage Hadoop DevOps or System Administrators to team up and participate in the competition.

Registration Criteria

Student Group
- Each team should have at least 2 members and each member MUST be a full time student and currently at least a senior in high school, college student, or graduate student.
- Changing team members is prohibited during the competition period (May 3rd - 31st) .

Amateur Group
- Each team should have at least 2 members. Full-time students are prohibited.
- Each person cannot register for more than one team at the same time.

Rule
Every team will have to deploy a VM (CentOS with 4GB+) using Hadoop 2.0 within 24 hours. Any Software Distributions is allowed, but it must be a free version and at least include the following services:
HDFS | MapReduce | ZooKeeper | HBase | Pig | Hive operating system and Hadoop Configuration.
All services should function properly.


Judging Criteria
Only the top 10 teams scoring at least 70 out of 100 points can proceed to the final competition.

 

 
 

Final Competition

May 31st, 2014 (Sat) 9:00am–9:00 pm 10-hour Deployment @ Taipei

 

Rule
All competing teams will use one server provided by Etu (Each team will have the same server with same specs and pre-installed CentOS & Hypervisor with VM X 4, RAM 32GB+).
During the 10-hour competition, your team needs to deploy using Hadoop version 2.0 within 4VMs and a free version of a software distribution. The deployment is a fully distributed mode which includes 2 name nodes and 2 data nodes and at least includes the following service:
HDFS | Map/Reduce | ZooKeeper | HBase | Pig | Hive | Name Node
HDFS Kerberos Security must activate operating system and Hadoop configuration, and should make all services function properly and achieve the best efficacy.

 
 

 

Judging Criteria
System (80%) -
Judges will logon every server and test all services and assess the completeness and accuracy of the Hadoop cluster environment, Name Node HA, Kerberos Security, MapReduce, HBase, and HDFS.
Presentation (20%) -
Each competing team has 6 minutes to answer the following series of questions: Which Hadoop version did you use? What was your methodology for deployment and architecture? What was your operating system and Hadoop configuration? Other Q&A’s may be asked depending on time.
