Big Data changes the world , providing more possibilities to think about the most innovative business model. Hadoop has emerged as the most powerful technology for exploring the value of Big Data. Through the studying of Hadoop systems and applications we hope all participants will use this knowledge to improve society and enterprises. We are inviting the talents from every field to team up with partners who are skillful and experienced in data processing and analytics for EHC 2016.

 

The registration is now open for all talents from every field. Prizes worth over NT$300,000 are provided for those entering the final-round competition (Hadoop users or amateurs). To match the operation model in the real business world, EHC extends the cooperation with udn in 2016. The dataset are the de-identified authentic online data provided by udn, and the contestants are encouraged to integrate the 3rd party data (e.g. Open Data). Therefore, this will increase the complexity of data analytics. The primary concept of this competition is to test the participantsʼ abilities of data analytics and value creation to solve the authentic problems in the real businessworld. From Mar 28th (Mon),if you are skillful in Hadoop Big Data application and Hadoop software development, you are cordially invited to team up with your partners and join this distinguished Hadoop Ecosystem competition. Registration deadline is May 6th (Fri). Etu provides the standard Hadoop Ecosystem platform environment, including the analytics tools listed below:

Etu provides the standard Hadoop Ecosystem platform environment, including the analytics tools listed below:

  • Hive/Impala

  • Spark SQL/MLlib

  • R Server

  • Python

  • MapReduce/Pig/HBase

 

 

 

 Rules

 

First Challenge in Competition

Based on the online Clickstream Log, create data model within Hadoop Ecosystem to predict at which department each user will make purchases.

 

Final Challenge in Competition

With a larger amount of Clickstream Log, focused on consumers in Taipei City and New Taipei City, each team should legally integrate at least 1 type of 3rd party data, such as Open Data, within Hadoop Ecosystem to build the optimal data model and predict the product type each user will buy (department > category > product type). In this phase, in addition to the model accuracy, the judging criteria are based on the operation performance and submission time. Etu looks forward to seeing the contestantsʼ innovation and findings of the relation within the data world.

Dr. Sheng-Wei Chen

Dr. Sheng-Wei Chen


Dr. Sheng-Wei Chen is a Research Fellow at the Institute of Information Science and the ResearchCenter for Information Technology Innovation of Academia Sinica and also the director in Multimedia Networking and Systems Lab. His researches focus on user experiences, multimedia computing and social computing, and he also has extraordinary perspectives on multimedia system, user experience measurement and management. In 2014, Dr. Chen launched an association of data science in Taiwan and would love to spread the enthusiasm of data science to the public to explore the potential of data science.
